Available as a fully online graduate program or in a hybrid format offering some classes at the SUNY Oswego Metro Center in Syracuse, the master of business administration in health services administration aims to be convenient and pertinent for mid-career health care professionals as well as people in other sectors wishing to make the switch to health care, said Richard Skolnik, dean of the SUNY Oswego School of Business.
The state Labor Department has rated employment prospects for health care managers “very favorable” in the coming years, the college noted in proposing the new program. In designing the MBA-HSA program, SUNY Oswego worked closely with a regional advisory board of executives from physician practices, long-term-care facilities, health care networks, the region’s largest health insurer and others.
Careers enhanced by the new degree program would include management positions in pharmaceutical companies, health insurers, public health agencies, management consulting, long-term-care facilities, hospitals, clinics, physician practices, professional societies, government, the military and health care finance.
The new program has been designed to the standards of the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education. The SUNY Oswego School of Business is accredited by AACSB International, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Both organizations are the recognized authorities in their fields.
The fully online option for the MBA-HSA opens the way for international students, military personnel and busy health care professionals to earn the degree, as well as those in other fields seeking to move into health care. Since January 2011, Oswego has offered an online MBA, now ranked among the best comparable degree programs at colleges and universities nationwide.
