Trasferring Post-9/11 GI Bill to Your Spouse or Child?

If you transfer your Post-9/11 GI Bill, the payments are distributed the same way as if you were using them yourself: the tuition payment goes to the school, and the housing allowance and book stipend goes to the “transferee."  This means all correspondence will be going to your child or spouse, as well as, the housing and books/supplies stipend.

When you transfer your benefits, you are essentially giving them up to another person. The dependent you give them to must be in DEERS when you transfer. You can, however, change the allotment of months for up to 15 years after your last qualifying period of service.
