JCC and FDRHPO to offer Health IT Training - Info Session Feb. 3

Jefferson Community College (JCC) in collaboration with the Fort Drum Regional Health Planning Organization (FDRHPO) will offer pre-certification training for health information technology at a fraction of the cost of the regular tuition due to a grant made possible through FDRHPO.

JCC will hold an information session for its Health Information Technology (HIT) pre-certification training program on Tuesday, February 3 at 6:00 p.m. in Room E-129 (Extended Learning Center). Intended for those with healthcare or informational technology backgrounds, the HIT program can be completed in 6-months. Applications, due February 20, will be available at the information session on February 3.

The HIT program consists of hands-on training, classroom lecture and a built in apprenticeship. Students will have the opportunity to sit for two Health IT certification exams designated for the role of  workflow analysis and redesign specialist, and practitioner consultant. Classes will meet on Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on JCC’s campus in Watertown.

HIT technicians create, install and maintain a patient’s electronic health record (EHR). As an increasing number of physician practices and hospitals move toward the EHR system, the demand for certified HIT professionals has grown. In response to the growing demand for HIT professionals, a grant available through FDRHPO provides $750 scholarships for each student reducing the original training cost of $1250 down to $500. Additionally, students who successfully complete the training may be eligible for a $250 reimbursement. This is one career growth opportunity healthcare and IT professionals won’t want to pass up!

Tuition costs $500.  Veterans will receive a reduced rate of $250. Companies who send more than 3 employees will receive a discounted rate of $250 per employee. Students who successfully complete the program may apply for an additional $250 reimbursement. Restrictions apply.
To learn more about HIT training and funding and to pick up an application, attend the information session at JCC on February 3. Inquiries should be directed to Todd Parody, JCC coordinator of community services, at 315-786-2385.
