We have received questions from Soldiers concerning registering directly with their schools during this period of Tuition Assistance suspension and wondering if the Army would cover the costs when Tuition Assistance is again made available. Please be advised that the Army will NOT provide retroactive Tuition Assistance for enrollments entered into by Soldiers with their schools during this period of Tuition Assistance suspension. All financial costs will be the responsibility of the Soldier. Soldiers may use their GI Bill benefits, scholarships, loans and in the caseo of Army National Guard Soldiers possible state Tuition Assistance funding. Army National Guard Soldiers should contact their state education office for guidance.
Despite what was stated in this weeks Army Times in the article "Tuition Assistance is Back" a decision to reinstate the program has not yet been reached by the Department of Defense and Army senior leadership. While HR 933 directs DoD to reinstate Tuition Assistance, funding of the program and possible modifications to eligibility requirements need to be identified in order to sustain the program through the end of the fiscal year. As soon as implementation instructions are provided by DoD and the Secretary of the Army the information will be put out through GoArmyEd, Our Fort Drum Army Education Center Facebook page and Army PAO.
